Advancing Spatial Recognition Technology for Medical Robots Based on LiDAR-Camera Fusion Sensors


Medical robot specialist CUREXO (CEO Jae-jun Lee) is joining forces with LiDAR solution specialist SOS Lab (CEO Ji-sung Jeong) to jointly develop spatial intelligence solutions for medical robots.


On the 26th, CUREXO and SOS Lab announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop spatial intelligence technology applicable to medical robots and surgical environments.






This partnership was established to apply spatial intelligence—a technology gaining significant attention alongside the recent expansion of Physical AI—to the medical robotics sector. Spatial intelligence is a technology that allows AI to perceive its surroundings in 3D, understanding the positions and relationships of spaces and s to support a robot's decision-making and movements. LiDAR, in particular, can render environments into highly precise 3D data, making it a core sensor in both autonomous driving and robotics.


By combining SOS Lab's LiDAR and multimodal sensor technologies with Curexo's expertise in medical robot development, operation, and testing environments, the two companies plan to develop spatial recognition technology optimized for healthcare settings and verify its performance in actual robotic environments.


The main areas of cooperation include:

 - Application of LiDAR-camera fusion sensor technology to medical robots

 - Demonstration and verification of sensor systems in medical robot operating environments

 - Joint R&D of digital twin technology based on 3D spatial data


Leveraging its technical know-how and understanding of medical robot operating environments, CUREXO will drive technical verification and solution advancement, prioritizing the safety and precision required in clinical settings. SOS Lab will be responsible for developing the LiDAR and multimodal sensor systems, as well as the spatial and recognition algorithms.


Through practical demonstrations that consider actual operating conditions, the companies plan to evaluate the applicability of this spatial recognition technology. Moving forward, they aim to evolve it into a system that fully supports medical robots in perceiving their surroundings and making autonomous judgments and movements.


Starting with this agreement, the two companies will systematically specify detailed joint R&D projects. They also plan to actively promote their developed technologies and collaborative achievements by participating jointly in major domestic and international exhibitions, such as ROBOTWORLD.
